Ballet Classes - For Ages 7 and Up
We offer an intensive Ballet training program, and while we train in a variety of styles, we use the
Vagonova Syllabus as the basis for our class structure.  Ballet Class levels are divided into Eight "Years"
of training.  Students will test into each level.  This system allows the instructor to give students the
best training for their level and for more focused training for our students.  When registering students
eligible to enter into our ballet program will receive a "Ballet Packet", this packet includes information on
each level as well as the skills and techniques developed within each year that need to be mastered in
order to advance to the next level.  Students starting classes at age 7+ may need to take a Beginning
Ballet Technique class before entering into the Year 1 level.
All of our Ballet classes will include a Barre warm-up, stretching, Centre work including Adagio, Petit
Allegro, and Turns, and Across the floor exercises including Grande Allegro.  Students will learn Ballet
vocabulary, technique, and history.  We also offer opportunities for our older students to take field trips
to attend professional ballet performances, in the past we have attended performances by
American
Ballet Theatre, Alonzo King's Lines Ballet, and the Joffrey Ballet.
Ballet is the most important style of dance to study for every classically trained dancer, it is the
foundation of technique, and therefore we require it as a per-requisite class for Jazz, Lyrical, and Turns
and Leaps.  You must take Ballet in order to enroll in a Jazz, Lyrical, or Turns and Leaps class.

Pointe Classes - For Ages 11 and Up
*With instructor approval, a minimum of 2 years of intensive Ballet Training, student must be enrolled
in the Ballet Year 3 or 4 Level class
In addition to regular Ballet classes we also offer Pointe technique classes.  This is not an alternate style
of ballet, but rather an additional skill that Ballet students acquire in their training.  Pointe work is never
guaranteed for any student, physical limitations may not allow for Pointe work for every dancer.  All
students must take a Pointe exam before beginning classes as well as checking with their physician.
Students who qualify for the exam will receive a "Pointe Packet" regarding information on their
examination and other important information.

Jazz Classes - For Ages 7 and Up
Our Jazz classes will help the dancer to gain strength, mobility, flexibility, and coordination.  All classes
consist of Warm-Up and stretching (which includes basic isolations, stretching, and strengthening
exercises), Center Work focusing on balance and control exercises, Across the Floors, and Combinations.
Jazz class levels are divided into Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels.  Within the Beginning
and Intermediate levels there are divisions of I, II, III, and IV sub-levels.  Ballet is a pre-requisite for
enrollment into any Jazz Class.

Lyrical Classes - For Ages 8 and Up
The Lyrical Jazz style is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance technique.  It is a unique dance form, in that it
has no particular history.  Lyrical dance challenges choreographers and dancers to use movement to
interpret the meaning of the music and express emotion.  The lyrics of a song are the driving force for
the inspiration of the movement. Choreography is often emotional, gripping, and delicate all at the
same time.  Lyrical is not just a form of dance, for many it is a way of expressing your emotions.
Lyrical should be graceful, emotional, and unpredictable.  Movements in Lyrical dance are characterized
by their fluidity and grace; Leaps are executed high and with a soaring quality, while turns are airy and
flowing.  When the music's tone is angry or frustrated there are sharp, short movements. When it is
happy or peaceful, the movements are long and flowing.
Classes will be a fusion of both Ballet and Jazz technique and will emphasize movement quality and
expression.  Lyrical Class levels are divided into Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels.  Within
the Beginning and Intermediate levels there are divisions of I, II, III, and IV sub-levels.  Both Ballet and
Jazz Classes are a prerequisite for enrollment into any Lyrical Class.

Turns and Leaps - For Ages 7/8 and Up (Levels Beginning III and Up)
These classes will include a warm-up and the entire class will focus entirely on techniques involved with
the execution of a variety of turns and leaps.  Student must be dancing at level Beginning III or higher,
and taking both Ballet and Jazz in order to enroll in this class.
*Turns and Leaps classes are technique only classes

Theatre and Rhythm Tap Classes - For Ages 7 and Up
Tap dance was born in the United States during the nineteenth century, and today is popular all around
the world. The name comes from the tapping sound made when the small metal plates on the dancer's
shoes touch a hard floor. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a
percussive musician.  Tap dancers make frequent use of syncopation. Choreographies typically start on
the eighth beat, or between the eighth and the first count. Another aspect of tap dancing is
improvisation. This can either be done with music and follow the beats provided or without musical
accompaniment, otherwise known as a capella dancing. Hoofers are tap dancers who dance only with
their legs, making a louder, more grounded sound.  Tap Class levels are divided into the same
categories as Jazz and Lyrical Classes.

Hip Hop - For Ages 5 (with dance experience) and Up
Hip hop dance refers to dance styles, mainly street dance styles, primarily danced to hip hop music, or
that have evolved as a part of the hip hop culture Afrika Babaataa was the first person to use the term
"hip-hop". By its widest definition, it can include a wide range of styles such as breaking, popping,
locking, house dance and even electro dance. It can also include the many styles simply labelled as hip
hop, old school hip hop (or hype), hip hop new style and freestyle.

Contemporary (must be dancing at an Intermediate Level in all styles)
Contemporary dance is an evolving collection of interdependent training systems and choreographic
approaches arising from the drive of 20th/21st century dance artists to make dance performances
relevant to contemporary culture/s. Various physical and compositional techniques have arisen through
processes used to explore the structure and dynamics of bodies in space-time to create a dance.
Contemporary dance combines elements of modern and post-modern technique, and in such is not a
unique dance technique, but rather an exploration of modern dance in all its forms.
